Thank you to the Brilliant Women who joined the first Put It On The Page retreat this summer!

Summer 2026 Participant

Participating in Put It On The Page was an exciting adventure that took me from saying, 'I'm not a writer' to 'I do have something to write and I'm ready to do just that!'

Summer 2026 participant

This retreat provided me the space to remember why it is I love being a Black woman and why I enjoy writing. I am so appreciative of the Montgomery Sankofa Collective for putting intention and purpose into creating this amazing experience. I have been truly inspired.

Put It On The Page is for Black women writers of all types and all levels of experience. Our program is designed to offer inspiration, community, and dedicated writing time for writers who may have publishing credits and/or active works in progress, but we also welcome participants who are newly exploring writing as an outlet. Each person’s unique background makes the retreat experience more vibrant!

Four days and three nights, starting Thursday afternoon and continuing into Sunday afternoon.

 Put It On The Page combines three components:

  1. Find Inspiration in the Black American experience through visits to Montgomery’s nationally-recognized historical sites;
  2. Find Community in group discussions, writing workshops, and special events with your retreat cohort, authors, and other guest speakers; and
  3. Find Your Voice during solo time set aside for you to reflect, read, and write – with a chance to share your work during the program’s closing brunch.

In the historic city of Montgomery, Alabama

We aim for each cohort to include  12-15 people. You are welcome to apply alone or as part of a small group.

The full package includes lodging, retreat activities, programming and materials, and most meals. Please complete our brief interest form to receive a detailed description of the package options and prices.

Yes! Through the support of our sponsors, we offer limited financial aid for retreat participants who need assistance covering the cost. Indicate on your interest form if you would like to request financial aid.

When retreat registration opens, we'll launch a brief Interest Form you can use to tell us more about yourself. We will follow up with details about the retreat program and package pricing, so you can decide your best fit and sign up to join us.

If you have already submitted a retreat interest form for a past retreat, you do not have to do it again. When retreat registration opens, just email contact@mgmsankofa.com with your name and a brief message that you would like to receive details about the upcoming retreat. We will reply with full registration details as soon as possible.

Note: If you would like to submit a new interest form to share new or additional information about yourself, you're welcome to do that instead.

Let’s talk! If your group of 5 or more participants is interested in planning a private writing retreat in Montgomery, on dates outside of our published schedule, please email contact@mgmsankofa.com so we can make it happen.

Email our team at contact@mgmsankofa.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible!
